Coconut oil, from the research I have done, is by far the best of the best. Coconut oil is antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal! Studies have shown that coconut oil destroys the bacteria that can cause tooth decay.
It is absolutely amazing that just one spoonful of coconut oil can clean your teeth and help prevent tooth decay more effectively than brushing your teeth or rinse the mouth with any brand of mouthwash and fluoride without any side effects as well.
The research comes from the Athlone Institute of Technology, where Ireland-based scientists examined the effects of natural and digested coconut oil on common strains of bacteria within the mouth. What they found was that not only did the coconut oil effectively inhibit a majority of the bacteria strains single-handedly, but it was also particularly harmful to candida albicans.
How does coconut oil prevent cavities naturally?
It does so by crushing a yeast known as candida albicans which enables dental diseases. This yeast is contributed to a diet consisting of processed foods and sugar. Candida infection can lead to digestive issues as well. The scientists looked closer at the effects of natural and digested coconut oil on common strains of bacteria within the mouth, including S. mutans, a major culprit associated with tooth decay. In their report, the researchers state that enzyme-modified coconut oil could be ‘an effective alternative to chemical additives’ in most dental health care products.
How To Use Coconut Oil For better Oral Health
Have you ever thought of using a spoonful of coconut oil to clean your teeth and improve overall oral health? Then now may be the time. It doesn’t contain fluoride and is so much more effective at doing the job than regular toothpaste or mouth wash.
Swish a spoonful of extra virgin coconut oil around in your mouth for 15-20 minutes. Make sure to not swallow the oil as it contains all the nasty mouth bugs. Spit it out in the bin and rinse teeth with water.
Tooth Paste Recipe
Here’s the all-natural tooth paste we use at home.
½ cup coconut oil
2-3 tablespoons baking soda
15-30 drops of peppermint essential oil
Melt coconut oil and blend with other ingredients. Pour into a glass jar and let cool. Use as you would use normal tooth paste.
